THR: Jenna Ortega Could Star in ‘Beetlejuice’ Sequel
Wednesday star Jenna Ortega is considering starring in a Beetlejuice sequel, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
According to them, if Ortega signs on to the project, he will play the daughter of Lydia, the heroine played by Winona Ryder in the original 1988 film. It is expected that Tim Burton, who directed the first part with Michael Keaton in the title role, will again direct, and Keaton will also return to his role.
Filming is due to start in late May or early June in London, but the film’s budget has yet to be set, causing delays in production.
The first Beetlejuice grossed $80 million on a $15 million budget and won an Oscar for best makeup at the 1989 awards ceremony.
Over the following years, attempts were made to make a sequel, during which the tape underwent various iterations and changed writers, and Burton himself publicly hesitated about his participation.
